Whats so Good About Good Friday?

Hebrews 10 (ESV)

1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? 3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,

“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,

but a body have you prepared for me;

6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings

you have taken no pleasure.

7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,

as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ ”

8 When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), 9 then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Welcome to the Good FRIDAY at the AMP. We are SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE.

**I was riding in the truck recently with my kids and we passed one of MANY the billboards we have placed in or city letting people KNOW that GOOD FRIDAY at the AMP was on.

Any my youngest Charlie, after seeing the Billboard, asked me ever so simply and innocently “Dad… why is it GOOD friday? whats the GOOD part all about?

And i thought to myself… thats it isn’t it… thats it.

Thats the SIMPLICITY of the GOSPEL of GRACE.

Thats WHAT IT ALL JUST COMES DOWN TO - GOOD FRIDAY… ITS JUST REALLY REALLY GOOD.

GRACE IS JUST GOOD.

You cant MAKE IT YOURSELF>

YOU CANT FIND IT ON YOR OWN.

GRACE FINDS YOU.

AND HERE WE ARE....

TALKING ABOUT GOOD FRIDAY

So thats the TITLE of my MESSAGE tonite…

SIMPLY this

Title: WHATS SO GOOD ABOUT GOOD FRIDAY?

I wanna talk for a few minutes about why THIS PARTICULAR FRIDAY… IS JUST SO GOOD.

the MAIN REASON IS THAT IT FEATURES A CROSS.

But its NOT THE PROCESSION

It wasnt NOT the ROMAN GOVERNMENT that MAKES it BETTER

ITS WHO WAS ON THE CROSS THAT MADE THE CROSS WHAT IT IS TO YOU AND ME TODAY.. AND WHAT MAKES GOOD FRIDAY GOOD.

it was the BODY of JESUS - GIVEN UP on that DAY, on that CROSS IN THAT WAY - that MAKES IT SO SO GOOD.

ITS THE CROSS OF CHRIST THAT MAKES THAT FRIDAY AND TODAY THIS GOOD FRIDAY - GOOD!

(but you could say… but how? it was so harsh and gruesome, with torture and so much pain inflicted upon Jesus - How is that GOOD?)

the REALITY is that The Cross of Christ is the revealed truth of God’s judgment on sin.

It was the supreme triumph, and it shook the very foundations of hell.

There is nothing in time or eternity more absolutely certain and irrefutable than what Jesus Christ accomplished on that Cross— He made it possible for the entire human race to be brought back into a right-standing relationship with God. He made redemption the foundation of human life; that is, He made a way for every person to have fellowship with God.

The Cross was not something that happened to Jesus— He came to die; the Cross was His purpose in coming.

He is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8).

The incarnation of Christ would have no meaning without the Cross.

BEHOLD THE CROSS TODAY..

BECAUSE THE CROSS IS WHY JESUS CAME

ITS WHY HE CAME.

The Baby in the MANGER.....WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHS....

Is the LAMB OF GOD.

that LAMB of GOD that JOHN THE BAPTIST CRIED OUT “takes away the SINS OF THE WORLD!

The purpose of the incarnation was the redemption of mankind. God came in the flesh to take sin away, not to accomplish something for Himself.

Which now makes The Cross is the central event in time and eternity, and the answer to all the problems of both.

SO WHY IS GOOD FRIDAY… SO GOOD?

THREE REASONS WHY GOOD FRIDAY… IS JUST SO GOOD.

1.GOOD FRIDAY IS GOOD NEWS FOR ME.

Good friday is something very personal to every single person.

why?

because at the cross lies the VERY HEART of the GOSPEL.

The Good NEWS of THE DEATH, BURIAL & RESSURECTION of CHRIST is that its a news that can find its way to every single doorstep. and every single HEART.

There is a GOD-SIZED Hole in very HUMAN HEART. and ONLY the TRUTH of the GOSPEL is what FILLS that HOLE PERFECTLY as the LOVE of GOD IS USHERED into that HUMAN HEART BY THE HOLY SPIRIT UPON BELIEVING,UPON THE MOMENT OF SALVATION.

here is what i pray you’ll CATCH Today:

GOOD FRIDAY WAS FOR ME.

ITS GOOD NEWS FOR ME BECAUSE IT WAS INTENDED TO BE FOR ME.

AND FOR YOU.

(maybe youve never thought about it like that befoe.....

There is a myth out there that FAITH is only for a religious group of people, or faith and being a JESUS follower is ONLY for a certain type of person or only for super--spiritual people.....people that are “naturally inclined” towards spirituality. LET ME SAY THIS CLEARLY TODAY: Thats FALSE. THE CROSS PROVES IT!its not. the GOSPEL IS A PERSONAL GOSPLEL.... and Its available for every single person.

ONCEChrist died ONCE. FOR ALL.

9 then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

GOOD FRIDAY IS FOR ME: But ONLY I CAN TAKE HOLD OF IT.

I love this new cross that Jill bought be. Its silver and gold.... and its WEIGHTY.

ITS KIND OF HEAVY.

I LIKETO HOLD IT. TO TAKE IT IN MY HAND.... BECAUSE IN MY HAND. IT FEELS PERSONAL.....AND TO ME THATS WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT ABOUT TODAY.

WE ALL GET TO, WE ALL MUST.≥.,..,FOR OURSELVES, BEHOLD THE CROSS.

****personally speaking… ONLY YOU CAN TAKE A HOLD OF THE CROSS> IF YOUre grandma had fait, thats GREAT, if your buddy from college had faith thats great - but what it comes down to is - YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN FAITH

BUT ONLY YOU CAN OPEN THE DOOR AND LET THE POWER OF THE CRUCIFIXION COME INTO YOUR OWN LIFE>

Revelation 3:20 “20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

Why is it so good to be apart of GOOD friday - its because its GOOD FOR ME. For my HEART.

2.GOOD FRIDAY IS GOOD NEWS FOR YOU.

so its good news for me. but its good news for THEM. For everyone.

For the WORLD>

For the lost.

THE CROSS ISNT FOR SOME PEOPLE - ITS FOR ALL PEOPLE!

For you, if you are here tonite because you thought you’d check it out— can i tell you that are here for a reason and if you don’t know JESUS yet and you haven’t encountered the person of GRACE then you haven’t YET known what its like to BE BORN again.

THIS GOOD FRIDAY IS FOR YOU.

THIS MOMENT IS FOR YOU.

John 3:16 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

ITS FOR THE WORLD>

The CROSS is not just PRIVATE for some, but its PUBLIC for all. Thats why the CROSS wasn’t kept to a small crowd. It was GRUESOME>

it was on PUBLIC DISPLAY.

BECAUSE THE CROSS IS FOR THE PUBLIC OR FOR EVERYONE.

IT WAS VISUAL TO THE WORLD>

THE CROSS is MEANT to BE ON DISPLAY.

3.GOOD FRIDAY IS GOOD FOR OUR GOD.

The reason that GOOD friday is SO GOOD - is because GOD SAW IT AS GOOD.

DETERMINED BY GOD TO BE WHAT HE WOULD ACCEPT AS THE PUNISHMENT FOR SIN

As FIT

AS THE CORRECT SACRIFICE.

a PLEASING AND FITTING SACRIFICE FOR THE SINS OF THE ENTIRE WORD<

FOREVER.

“The Cross was the place where God and sinful man merged with a tremendous collision and where the way to life was opened. But all the cost and pain of the collision was absorbed by the heart of God.”

GODS OWN SON.

IN AGONY. DEHYDRATED. EXHAUSTED. SUFFOCATING. BLEEDING TO DEATH

When He hung on that CROSS.... HE LIFTED UP HIS HEAD, HE SOMEHOW FOUND THE STRENGTH TO LIFT UP HIS ENTIRE BODY and our LORD uttered the words

“it is FINISHED”.

This is what the WRITER of HEBREWS is getting at.

Hebrews 10:11-12 “11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,”

Those WORDS are WORDS To get EXCITED ABOUT TODAY.

HE.SAT.DOWN - THAT MEANS ITS DONE.

WHEN IT SAYS HE SAT DOWN>

ISNT BIBLICAL SPEAK FOR JESUS TOOK A BREAK AND RESTED.

ThOSE WORDS HE SAT DOWN

THE meaning IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE SAYS IT LIKE THIS

“its over”.

HE SAT DOWN. ITS OVER

HE SAT DOWN. ITS DONE DEAL.

HE SAT DOWN. ONCE AND FOR ALL.

HE SAT DOWN. DEATH IS DEFEATED

HE SAT DOWN. GRACE HAS BECOME AVAILABLE TO ALL WHO BELIEVBE.

HE SAT DOWN.....MEANS It IS Good. BC Gods GOODNESS IS HERE

HE SAT DOWN. MEANS The War between Good and EVIL is over.

HE SAT DOWN. GOD HAS SETTLED THE DEBT

HE SAT DOWN. the transaction is COMPLETE. Its TOTALLY PAID

HE SAT DOWN THE WALL IS GONE

HE SAT DOWN. SO LONLINESS IS FOREVER GONE

Its FINISHED.

Its a COMPLETE WORK.

WHEN THE BIBLE SAYS ONCE FOR ALL.

IT PLEASED GOD - GOD WAS SATISFID - THAT WAS ENOUGH - AND OUR HIGH PRIEST JESUS HAS SAT DOWN an d THAT MEANS YOU AND I CAN GET UP AND PRAISE

WHEN IT SAYS HE SAT DOWN THATS WHEN YOU AND I WE GET UP.

WHEN IT SAYS HE SAT DOWN THATS WHEN WE GET UP AND CLAP OUR HANDS

WHEN WE GET UP AND CHEER TO OUR GOD

WHEN WE GET UP AND PRAISE THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY.... the SINS of the WORLD.

WHEN IT SAYS HE SAT DOWN.... THATS WHAT GETS US TO OUR FEET. OR TO OUR KNEE’s.

There are NO MORE ANGLES left to ADD to the CROSS>

The CROSS OF CHRIST> is a FINISHED CROSS> a FINISHED WORK> A TOTAL WORK>

THERES NO MORE WORK TO DO BUT TO BEHOLD IT… FOR YOURSELF>
